Most of the time, what they're really asking is whether or not you need sponsorship. I haven't had issues after explaining that my EAD does not require sponsorship.

I don't know if you've looked into it yet, but some states allow you to renew your license using your approval notice or simply proof of a pending immigration application. You might have luck with...

Thanks for sharing!

In Minnesota you can use your I-797 for your driver license "status check" as well. It gets you 5 more months.

Hopefully I will have a new EAD by then.
