State Republicans believe a Democratic lawmaker is reconsidering a bill that would offer in-state tuition to illegal immigrants because of a public “outcry.”
But Sen. Chris Romer of Denver told the Denver Daily News on Wednesday that Senate Bill 170 is not at all off the table. And he said with certainty that his reconsidering the legislation has nothing to do with public outcry.
Romer said he wants to wait to schedule the bill for a hearing by the whole Senate until next week when he expects to see the language of the federal DREAM Act. The DREAM Act would allow illegal immigrants who arrived as children the opportunity to become citizens by attending college or serving in the military.
