While in the abstract, it's good for Republicans to not alienate the latino vote, because it's a powerful demographic force for the future, right now the constituencies most individual Republican congressmen rely on are dead set against immigration reform. A congressman is more likely to think about his reelection prospects in 2010 and 2012 rather than his party standing in 2030 and 2032.
