I have TPS, and a work permit. I was in deportation proceedings like 2 years ago. Most of the time when you get deferred action or something like that your are allowed to obtain a work permit. You can get a license, work (in some places), travel, leave the country ( it has to be an emergency though). Having it is really a huge relief, i can do almost anything my US citizens friends can, i'm even more successful than most of them. I get paid more, i'm almost done with school etc. The only drag is not being able to join the military which i wanted to do.
