No, this bill would give individual police officers (even those who have zero training in dealing with immigration issues) to question and detain those who they suspect in being here illegally.
Firstly, this is bad because a police officer is not a federal border patrol agent. They don't know immigration law, they don't know how to apply it, and I guarantee it that they will arrest more legal residents due to this bill than illegals.
Secondly, this is bad because it takes the power away from the police departments to direct how they want their employees to work. From the looks of it, a police officer may choose to go 'rogue' and then instead of doing his work as say.. a street cop, he may choose to go and decide he wants to be an immigration officer.
Thirdly, this is bad because it reduces the trust that the illegal immigrant community has in the police officers. If you're an illegal and you saw a crime being committed will you go to the police to report it? HELL NO with this bill in place.
