LLENSBURG, Wash. —

Central Washington University is urging the state's congressional delegation to support the DREAM Act.

The bill would provide a path to legalization for law-abiding young people who were brought into the United States illegally as children and who either plan to attend college or join the military.

University President James L. Gaudino and Board of Trustees Chairman Sid Morrison signed a letter to the delegation Thursday urging support for the act. Gaudino says the act recognizes that the children of immigrants are American and he wants them to know they are welcome at CWU.

Washington state allows public universities to resident tuition rates to all graduates of Washington high schools who have lived here three or more years. Hispanic students comprise about 8 percent of CWU's student body.
