Immigration law. Which is too complex for anyone's good.
If you don't reapply after two years, you're not in a stay authorized by the Attorney General again (note: you still have no status throughout the whole thing). The issue there is that they already know who you are and where you live, so you're probably risking an order of deportation. Flee from that order and you're a fugitive looking at a ten-year ban from relief, including adjustment of status by marriage to a citizen.
