Hmm ill rather take a bill that bars us from applying for citizenship for like 25 years, or even for life BUT gives us all the rights and privileges of LPRs, than one that would only grant us work visas and permits with a "we shall see about LPR/USC later" approach to the issue.
I am simply too old at this point to still be playing immigration games, and I do not think I am alone in this as others on this forum are now closer to 30 than they are to 20. If the immigration machine does not start soon after the elections it will simply mean that I won't be able to stay in the US, then I will simply leave, and I will not blame anyone for the situation. As I have gotten older, I have realized how temporary all things are, and that includes friends, family and anyone's idea of home and I no longer feel like I absolutely must stay where I am. Even if I had my GC I would still move away to another state, thousands of miles away, where people would be much different, and I would eventually replace my current friends, and only occasionally talk to my parents. Once I realized this, moving to another country instead of waiting for my papers no longer scares me. I would not move back home, but there are other places that would welcome a college educated bilingual person.
I no longer wish to listen to politicians pledge things that they neither wish for nor will put any effort into turning them into reality. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
The only reason I am still here is because moving to another country now is simply impossible for logistical reasons, and I think everyone at this point actually realizes how broken the immigration system is, and some type of legislative action is imminent. However, there is also a reasonable chance it will point towards tougher enforcement, and not legalization.
