I doubt it, if recent history plays out, they'll make pretty comments about it all through jan and feb and even hold some bipartisan conferences on the matter, but they won't really start serious talks and discussions and panic until the week before the actual vote, then they'll agree to a kick the can down the road style stopgap measure that just averts the real hard choices until say, the end of the year. Gun control and immigration will dominate conversations for the first half of the year, just you wait, nobody in DC wants to have a real serious conversation on the nation's fiscal affairs, it's just like Europe, kick the can down the road, while the crisis continues to swell.
But then again, I could be wrong, and republicans might actually serious bring rational and clearheaded arguments to the table, and we might actually resolve this weeks before the deadline, and emerge with a credible strong consensus with actual teeth, but I really doubt that at the moment.
