As someone who works in healthcare with some of the best surgeons in the area, in one of the top 5% hospitals in the nation for our specialty, I can tell you that it'll depend on whether you live in a liberal state.

What worries me personally is age, because medical schools, want to make sure that their investment will be returned to the community and the profession. Also, the investment part applies to foreign medical school graduates who apply for residency in the U.S. Most will have to apply to places with underserved areas, hence enter the J1 medical visa, because medical institutions would not give up a spot to a foreign graduate vs. an American one.

So, if you are permitted to enter and graduate med school and live and practice in the U.S., the state where you attend will have the final say? I've been researching into it a bit, not allowing myself too much room because you cannot living under uncertainty, but hopefully it'll change soon. Best wishes to you.
