Will they ever, though? It seems like they're perfectly content pandering to their racist base who scapegoat immigrants for America's problems since they won districts that were gerrymandered to the GOP's advantage. Unlike their counterparts in the Senate, they're more than happy to deny any chance of a reasonable bill with a pathway to legal status/citizenship of passing.
I mean, they're apparently moving forward with the
SAFE act, which is Arizona's ass-backwards law but federally enforced (if it passes). It would turn all of us into criminals and make it difficult for everybody who's a darker shade than your average white guy to live here.
And these people on the committee have no desire, it seems, to move a bill forward that would have any sort of path to legal status.
I just have really low expectations from the House of Representatives. I've seen our hopes dashed so easily by these people that I can't help but be numb to it at this point.
And if you think liberal Democrats (both voters and people in power) are any better, there are many of them who want to see CIR fail so they can guarantee power for themselves, or worse, they side with people who want to blame us for all the shit that's happening in this country. So much for "progressive politics".
I'm just sick of all these people who don't actually see any of us as human, just puppets to use to their political advantage.
