The situation of Central American children crossing is NOT new. There was an increased amount in the last two months, but this, just as with undocumented immigration in general is not new.

All of the sudden it was declared a humanitarian crisis. And this issue is separate of that of immigration reform. The president is whom declared it "a crisis", not the right-wingers. The media followed and it's quite clear that it was done for political purposes. The children are deserving of protection from violence, but Mexico is deeply affected by all of this, too.
