From what I've been reading. The airport in Mexico will check your passport and AP document. However, they could only make a copy of the document. The AP will get stamped in US airport as well as your passport.
I'm taking my DL, EAD, copy of my 821d, AP docs. I dont think I will take my SSN card. Maybe someone could give better insight on this.
As for you and your sister, you should ask the officer. I heard often they would let you go into the US citizen line because you are traveling with a U.S citizen relative.
Good luck. Im also excited and nervous.

Hey!
I've travelled with AP 4 times already. You will need to go through immigrations- DO NOT go through the US citizen line. The first time I traveled I brought all my documents, but they really just check your AP. Basically when you land back in the US and go through immigration, you'll have your fingers scanned and pass the officer your AP. They will take you into the secondary screening room where they will stamp your AP. They may or may not ask questions- I guess it depends on the officer and how they're feeling at the time. Then you're free to go!
Safe and happy travels!
