It's not that difficult. He hasn't endorsed her. True to form, his goal is to modify the conventions platform to a more progressive turn. After all, it never was about "him".

Not that the platform is actually consequential.

However, he is walking a thin line with the Democratic establishment, since the end of the primaries, and had to make a concession in order to stay on without invoking their full ire.

Besides, their is still a lot of goodwill among the party for Bernie - i.e. Reid, Durbin, Obama, etc - he's caucused with them for almost 10 years.

In any case, it matters very little. Factoring current demographics, Trump's high unrecoverable unfavorables, his complete lack of ground game and ad-spending, along with his propensity to spew stupid racist shit, even Republican planners and donors are starting to consider this game-and-set privately.

Trump is like a most awfully godsend for Hillary - the only other person more disliked than the most disliked politician has grabbed the Republican nomination. This should have been a fairly easy victory, given eight years of Democratic incumbency, especially against Hillary.
