All I have gathered from past few months is that USCIS dropped the ball hard on this one, and they haven't implemented any safeguards in their infrastructure for events like this so we're basically left hanging.

Phone calls to USCIS don't seem effective, and any expedite requests are rejected from NSC. Congressional inquiries are questionable in their successes, and NILC is swamped with all the delayed renewal cases. I maintain that it is worth pursuing all avenues, but in the end, all we can do it wait and prepare for the worse case.
