Based on people's experiences, can I expect the rest of the process to go buy more quickly since they took so long to scheduled my bios? This is my second renewal, and I have not been in any trouble, nor applied for advanced parole.
I am coming in to work on a volunteer basis and will receive back pay when this gets settled, but I don't know if my credit cards and savings will get me through if this takes beyond December.
My work permit expired 9/15.

The same thing happened to me & I got approved less than 2 weeks after doing my bios. You should try doing a walk in for bios asap to speed up the process. Once you do bios, you should contact a 2nd tier and ask for an expedite on your case. You can also contact NILC and have them flag your case.
Praying for you for a speedy approval.
