I was under the impression you could just use your GC to work and travel (alongside your SSN and native passport),
Ack!

EADs are suppose to be completed in three months from start to finish. If AP is approved within a requisite timeline then a new document would likely be issued reflecting travel authorization. EAD/AP cards are work and travel authorized together. However, it cannot compared to a Green Card in many respects.
On the SSN thing, what most DACA users may have forgotten is to change their status associated with it. Every effort should be made to update their immigration status with the Social Security Administration. The SSA will update their records when Green Cards and US citizenship are presented. It is easier to check your status within the system by simply checking your SSN and a new unrestricted card is issued.
