It's not a dumb post. It highlights why ending is DACA itself is dumb. DACA is an extension of existing avenues to remain in the country. If DACA is ended, we make good candidates for Cancellation of Removal, possibly asylum as this articles suggests, and other types of relief.

Simply applying would mean we get to remain in the country for many years to follow, all while we get a work permit. And we already have a work permit with DACA. So why end it, and force us to hog the immigration courts even more to end up with the same?

If Trump is getting advised on all these, it's why he doesn't see it viable to end it. On the other side, he has the Paxtons and his anti-immigration wanting to see an end to DACA, people he's trying to appease as well.

The best solution, for now, is indeed to grandfather existing DACA beneficiaries and cease enrollment for new applicants. Then he can come out and shout to them "I've ended DACA", and in very tiny letters "for new applicants". His base is happy.
