Wall was always a dumb idea, a simpleton's solution to a complex problem, no wonder it resonated so well with the dumber members of society.
Nevermind that most illegal immigrants are overstays. Nevermind that drug cartels run submarines and sophisticated tunnel systems, nevermind that a Mexican can fly visa free to Canada, nevermind that LADDERS AND ROPES exist, nevermind that should tunnels fail you can fling drugs over the wall with some homemade catapult.
