I think a compromise would have a better chance and a much FASTER resolution. Remember that McConnell and Ryan still have to agree and bring the bill to the floor (unless using discharge petition in the house). If democrats were willing to trade wall funding for DA we would have a vote soon, because Trump would be all over it to fulfill his promise. The wall funding that passed in the house only cover about 70 miles of the border, they will need a lot more money in the future. If democrats agreed to the wall this process would go much faster.

However, I still think that if no compromise can be made. Democrats should attach DA to EVERY SINGLE bill until it passes. If by December nothing has been done, I totally agree with the shut down.
