Being petty is human nature. It is the reason we're still in the situation we're in. It's why racism, sexism, homophobia and xenophobia exist. People are unwilling to give up minor annoyance and need scapegoats to blame for them. If other people are petty, I refuse to apologize for being so myself. It's a human idiosyncrasy.
Hell, this whole thread is petty and your comments about my statement are petty. I don't have any political power. Therefore, my opinion doesn't matter. So why are you so offended by it. It wasn't an attack on you. I didn't make a threat or call someone a libelous name. What difference does it make?

Okay. This act is getting old. Your attempts at creating a caricature of yourself as some person who has a unique mature wisdom about the world are failing. I made a statement that was contrarian to views by many posters and according to you, that's childish. In that case, dissent is childish. So apparently maturity means conformity. I guess adults are all sheep that keep their heads down and accept all the bullshit and injustice that the majority dishes out. I think your characterization is bull. MLK, Mandela, and other social justice warriors refused to be sheep and they made people's lives better. Surely they weren't childish? Now I'm not even close to as accomplished as these people. But I do believe that silencing is oppression and silence is complicity in that oppression.

Also Durbin has been elected numerous times and he hasn't made it a secret that he supports Dreamers. His vote wouldn't have derailed the bill but it would have been symbolic that he was committed to the dreamers even if it meant shutting the government down for a little longer.
