There are plenty people here who expire well outside of the 150 day mark, including some in 2019, who have applied and their applications are being processed, myself included. I applied with 208 days left until expiration and will be going to my Biometrics appointment tomorrow. USCIS would not take your $495 dollars and not process your case. If an application were to be rejected due to a filing error, it would be rejected at the lockbox and your check would never be cashed.
