Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on Wednesday that he will make an effort to get funding for President Trump's border wall in the lame-duck session, adding that he had already spoken to House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) earlier in the day.
But McConnell said he hoped to avoid a government shutdown, observing that he would need Democratic votes to pass any year-end spending bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security.
