A bipartisan group of United States senators put forward a bill that would allow around 72,000 Venezuelans to stay in the US. The bill was introduced by Republican Senator Marco Rubio and Democrat Bob Menendez.
If approved, the legislation would immediately grant "Temporary Protected Status" to Venezuelan nationals who have passed security checks and allow them to live and work in the US for a period of 18 months.
