The Hill:

"Organized labor’s new unified front in support of comprehensive immigration reform could disrupt what’s left of the delicate bipartisan balance on one of the most politically charged issues in Congress."

“The current plan being developed by the administration and organized labor calls for immigration reform that does not adequately address either securing the border or a legal temporary worker program and is a plan I cannot support,” said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), the lead Republican sponsor of the immigration bill that died in the Senate after a conservative uprising against it in 2007.

McCain’s support – and the support of other Senate Republicans – will be necessary to advance a comprehensive bill even to the point it got to two years ago.

What does McCain need to adequately secure the border?

Sad to hear, but what the article said is fundamentally true.

McCain’s support – and the support of other Senate Republicans – will be necessary to advance a comprehensive bill

“We need to act on the pressing issue of border security now, and then seek comprehensive immigration legislation that includes a temporary worker program,” McCain continued. “Any legislation that does not address these two key components is not real reform.

i agree with what McCain said. they want to give us another chance... they just need to make sure that its a reform that benefits both the American citizens & the undocumented. logical thinking.

Yeah, but does a guest-worker program that McCain is advocating for do that ? He has always agreed about the subject of legalization but his steadfast approach concerning future flow is detrimental to this debate.

What gives the anti-immigrant people their edge[imo] is actually US protectionism & it is obvious any talk concerning future flow can easily kill this debate, which is exactly the angle they are using this time around about "Protecting American Jobs".The agreement that the Labor unions have agreed to appears to me as the best possible move for the upcoming CIR debate, but what I don't understand about the other side concerning the debate is the following:

-Anti-immigrant persons have have always advocated lessening legal & illegal immigration which they seem to be getting, but yet are still not satisfied.

-A so called "Independent Commission" could drastically cut legal immigration while most of the undocumented are leaving because of the US economy, yet most anti-immigrant folk are STILL coming out against an immigration bill that isn't even written yet.Which is completely illogical[all imo].

-Sometimes when a person speaks out against illegal immigration I sometimes get this impression that they are also advocating for an underground economy in the U.S.,basically saying "It is O.K".

Having said that, only the real lawmakers will vote for Policy while the others vote for Politricks to this almost unending debate.Man I need a drink !
