Mexico 'opens its arms' to immigrants - 31 Oct 09

Mexico has taken steps to allow the increasing number of foreigners who flood into the country each year, whether legally or illegally, to apply for citizenship.

Most of Mexico's immigrants come from Central America, but at least one million of them arrive from United States.

Al Jazeera's Franc Contreras reports from the central Mexican town of San Miguel de Allende, where foreigners say they appreciate a simpler kind of life.

Honestly, a FIERY debate on immigration reform is inevitable in the United States. It is coming. As we receive e-mails from our representatives promoting themselves for the 2010 elections next year, the urgency of Immigration reform is clear. It's all a matter of time. Clearly, Energy is the only important issue after Health Care Reform and I'm pretty sure Congress will pass it rapidly. Let's hope for the best.

What are the details?? I would gladly go to Mexico if it meant not returning to my country of origin.

EDIT:

Why is this only on Al Jazeera? No other reputable source has picked it up.
