President Obama reassured members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Wednesday that he will flex his executive muscle later this year to be "as great and big and bold as he can be" to reduce deportations of undocumented immigrant families who have lived and worked in the United States for years, one Democratic lawmaker said at the conclusion of the meeting.

Obama tasked White House Counsel W. Neil Eggleston and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson to meet this week with caucus members to continue examining powers the president can use to keep undocumented families together, Rep. Luis Gutierrez of Illinois told reporters.

Meanwhile, members of the caucus are willing to give the administration expedited authority to deport a surge of unaccompanied children seeking asylum in the United States, as long as any statutory changes preserve judicial due process on a case-by-case basis, Gutierrez told RCP.

He's going to get a legal opinion by the end of the summer. Then, he has to weigh whether it's good politically to do it before or after the midterms.

Right. First it was before summer ends and now by the end of the year. Quite lame.

It's going to happen before mid-terms. They have to get Latinos and other immigrants out to the polls. As several MSNBC analysts said all of this has to be done on a timeline that allows impact to benefit Democrats in November.

I think October is too late. August still seems the better time as the current South American brat problem will be older news and it will need a few months for any blow back from it to die down before the election.

The kids problem wont last long, no one remembers the boston bombing anymore which at the end turned out to be a huge setback.

Republicans are responsible for the brat problem!! If they had allowed CIR to pass in the House, the border would be secure by now and hence there would be no undocumented people crossing in!!
