Paul Ryan alluded to the fact that the house Judiciary committee may be involved with how DACA would end when he made the statement about not pulling the rug from underneath DACA beneficiaries. The make-up of the House Judiciary committee hasn't changed much since this article. It's all speculation ,but it's definitely going to be an interesting year coming up.

Quote:
House Republicans are telling Democrats to take it or leave it when it comes to a proposal to address young undocumented immigrants.
The House immigration subcommittee on Thursday staged a hearing on the status of those immigrants, known as DREAMers. And Republicans in that committee are backing a bill that would offer DREAMers legal status, and eventually citizenship.
But top Republicans indicated they're not willing to go farther. That likely means they won't agree to creating a path to citizenship for all of the country's 11 million undocumented immigrants.
"I do not believe that parents who made the decision to illegally enter the U.S. while forcing their children to join them should be afforded the same treatment as these kids," said Bob Goodlatte (Va.), the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. "Because let's be clear -- parents bringing their young children to the U.S. illegally is not something we want to encourage."
Quote:
Republican lawmakers, both leaders and rank-and-file, have claimed there is a "consensus" forming around the issue in the party.
"I believe members across the aisle can unite and agree that providing them with some sort of relief is the fair thing to do," Rep. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) said.
Quote:
Democrats, however, appear willing to try and stop the KIDS Act if it comes to the floor.
"If the DREAMers have the courage to stand up against this farcical piece of legislation
, which of course prevents their pathway forward, we have to have the courage and vision to do what's right for our nation and make sure we have a solution to the immigration problem, not a legislative gimmick," Rep. Joe Garcia (D-Fla.) told reporters before the hearing.

I truly believe there may be a path for us going forward with republicans in charge of all 3 levels of government. I have a feeling that democrats are the ones going to be doing us dreamers in with their legalize all the 11 million or nothing at all approach lol.

Quote:
GOP lawmakers have claimed there is momentum for passing a bill that addresses undocumented young people as part of the step-by-step approach it's taking to pass immigration bills.
"I think there is a consensus that we definitely need to do something about them," Rep. Raúl Labrador (R-Idaho) told reporters Wednesday. "Their stories are very compelling and we have to [address them]."
But Democrats say the measure doesn't go far enough. Out of the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S., there are an estimated 4.4 million under the age of 30, according to the Pew Hispanic Center. Of those, 1.7 million could be eligible for the Obama administration's deportation relief program.

This is our best chance in decades.

Dems did nothing in 8 years.

Democrats, please don't spoil our chance now!

Those who want their parents/relatives path to citizenship: Please, stop! You can't have everything.

LPR (path to citizenship) for Dreamers

Some status (no path to citizenship) for others

This is the ONLY way forward

That's stupid, Democrats better not ruin it for us. They should accept this.

Bash me if you will, but I don't believe all 11 million undocumented should have a path to citizenship.

It's basically a GOP version of the DREAM Act. People opposed it because it wasn't comprehensive. Even some dreamers were opposed to it because it basically took care of the kids but threw parents under the bus and break up families in the process. I kind of understand where they're coming from, but jeez, man, take what you can get. You can sponsor your parents once you become a citizen.

As much as it pains people in our community, he's 100% right. I'm very afraid that if there is any congressional attempt at relief for us that excludes pretty much the rest of the undocumented community, it will be derailed by crybabies who can't get a grip on the new reality that came to life on November 8th.

To those who are crying about their parents being left out: you are lucky to have parents. I took care of myself without parents for over 15 years. Where is my justice?

What kind of justice are you looking for? I didn't know Congress was giving out parents these days.

It won't be a take it or leave it situation. There is a lot of special interest from all industries who need various types of immigrants in this country. Fixing only dreamer is like putting a bandaid on a large wound. The whole immigration system needs to be reformed. Republican promised a wall and border security. To get that they will need to compromise or disappoint their base. Trump platform was built on reforming immigration and building his wall. It won't go well for him during re election if he can't accomplish reform.
