Paul Ryan was on the conservative Hugh Hewitt show today to talk about the next 100 days.
Quote:
HH: So if we put all these things on the table – infrastructure investment, the military rebuild, I’m going to come to tax and entitlement reform. Why not also put on an immigration overhaul? Is that possible?
PR: That’s not part of our plan. We want to focus on securing the border. And that’s what the President-Elect has asked us to focus on, and we agree with that. So right now, it is about border security. He ran on it. It was a prominent factor in the campaign. Most Republicans in the House and the Senate ran on border security, so we’re going to focus on securing the border. Look, this is a pretty aggressive agenda right now. It’s getting Obamacare repealed and replaced. It’s doing fundamental tax reform, overhauling the entire regulatory system, which is killing jobs, security the border, rebuilding the military and our infrastructure. All those things in one year in Congress would make this the most productive Congress in any of our lives.
HH: I agree with that, but I think President Trump can do a Nixon to China on immigration. And if that gets mixed in, you’ll bring some Democrats along with you. Do you have any hope of Democrats working with you on all of this agenda other than perhaps the infrastructure investment and maybe immigration reform?

Now that republicans have someone in the white house they trust with border security, they are going to be more open to legislation that may give us some form of legal status later on. I guess we will just have to wait to get more information about the future of daca recepients in the coming days. Let them secure that damn border already.

Border security? I guess Trump is trying to do a 180 on immigration and not even touch the subject anymore. Of course Republicans and Paul Ryan care more about tax reform and gutting Obamacare for their rich donors. All those fools that voted them in though.

Here we are laughing at them because they will lose ACA but probably the ones who voted against Trump are the ones who will suffer most.
Rural hospitals are gonna be shutting down. People do need the ACA trump voters included but they let their white identity overshadow their need for healthcare. Also, seniors who overwhelmingly went for trump are at risk since Obamacare and Medicaid are intertwined with Medicare.

The media is pandering this to us while we laugh at them, but do they really care? Most Republicans think in a weird way.
They'll care when republicans repeal with no replace. They'll care when they lose their health insurance and republicans come after social security and Medicare.

They'll care when republicans screw then over while the demographics of the country continue to change in an unstoppable way. Perhaps maybe then they'll set their white identity to the side and vote with their self interest in mind.

Like I said before, Trump takes away those things from those republicans, they will just pass the cost to the federal level like they always do. People like me and you will be the ones that get screwed.

Exactly.

They were more scared of the hordes of black and brown people that Fox News had convinced them were coming for them and "never thought he'd really do it." Well, guess what morons they will.

And miss me with the "not all Trump voters are racists" mess. If they voted for him, they excused the shit he said about Mexicans, women, black people, etc and are just as culpable as the white supremacists who have supported him.

Ignoring racism is racism in itself. Some of his supporters claim they supported him despite his promise of deporting millions of people because he would never be able to do this. Um, okay... I bet they wouldn't be supporting him if he promised to deport white people. Regardless if he would be able to do this or not.

Because they have no incentive for passing immigration reform.
