From the "They're making room for us" files... I'm not sure if this is already included in the new Public charge rules and is now expanding to ALL visa applicants or the insurance requirement is in addition to the public charge changes which may require $8K in a bond. My understanding is that it's in addition to that so they'd have to buy an overpriced junk insurance in addition to the bond.

President Trump signed a proclamation late Friday barring legal immigrants who cannot prove they will have health care coverage or the means to pay for it within 30 days of their arrival to the United States.

Trump said uninsured individuals are a burden on the health care industry and U.S. taxpayers.

"Immigrants who enter this country should not further saddle our health care system, and subsequently American taxpayers, with higher costs," Trump declared.

Beginning Nov. 3, only immigrants covered by approved health insurance or those who can show they can pay for "reasonably foreseeable medical costs" will be allowed entry into the U.S.

The announcement affects immigrants applying for visas from overseas. It doesn't apply to non-citizen children of U.S. citizens. Refugees and asylum-seekers are also exempt.

However, it would apply to the spouses and parents of U.S. citizens and the immediate family members of lawful permanent residents.

The proclamation is the latest effort by the Trump administration to limit the number of low-income immigrants coming to the United States. The administration also plans to make it harder for immigrants to get green cards if they use a wide range of public benefits. That new rule is set to take effect this month, although it is facing legal challenges.

The new proclamation is also expected to be challenged.

"If this policy survives the inevitable court challenges and is implemented, it will create a new and arbitrary hurdle for some half a million green card applicants each year," Doug Rand, who worked on immigration policy in the Barack Obama administration, told NPR. "Consular officers will deny the parents of U.S. citizens based on a snap judgment about their apparent health. U.S. citizens will be separated from their husbands and wives abroad based on a failure to demonstrate health insurance coverage or a subjective level of wealth."

Ridiculous for three reasons:
1) Refugees and asylees are currently exempt, however, even after the initial refugee status has termed and they have transitioned to perm residents or citizens, they and their families continue to use public benefits and publicly-subsidized insurance for as long as they need/want.

Same for all perm residents prior to this change.

2) Undocumented immigrants can easily pay their share of health care costs if these clowns start a legalization program and fix the system.

3) Health care is a human right.

As I understand it, all individuals granted visas have to prove financial solvency.

The biggest catch 22 that I see with this and the new public charge rules is that fact that in order to be able to be financially secure and to prove that you can pay for yourself is to either already come from a wealthy family or already have legal status so you can work and get insurance through work, build credit, save money, etc.

The goal as with every single other immigration change this president (and Miller) have made is to limit immigration so of course this is by design.

Health care for all isn’t a human right. That’s the same as homeless saying, housing and free food is a human right. Capitalist country, this isn’t soviet Russia or Venezuela.

Vaccines are health care for all.
Clean air and potable water are health for all.
WHO does not need health care?? It is not a commodity that you choose to purchase at Costco. My and your health depends on community health.

If we can fund trillions of useless wars, we as taxpayers can reallocate funds for health care.

Citizens ARE PISSED OFF!!
Millions of them don't have health insurance. And the GOP doesn't want to allow our taxes to pay for them. American citizens do support universal health care. I support health care for all.

Write, call, email the establishment before Pelosi extends more funding for this ridiculous administration. I mean, the vilify the poor, the sick, etc, citizen or not.
