The Senate debated a bill today to fund the Department of Homeland Security and the leading opponents of immigration reform (and immigration) in the Senate used the opportunity to force votes on several immigration-related measures.
Quote:
Senators also voted for an amendment (sponsored by Sen. Jim DeMint) to extend the border fence between the U.S. and Mexico.

They keep passing all this stuff to keep us from getting here and working here and yada yada yada, but what they don't realize is that they need to create a way to legalize us! Unless that happens, people are never gonna take the US immigration seriously. I don't even know what I'm saying anymore. I'm just pissed that e-verify passed.

Perhaps this is part of the plan. Enforcement first to shut the opposition then hit them with Immigration Reform. Well I hope so.

The fence idea is just retarded to say the least. I can't believe that California senators Boxer and Feinstein voted in favor of this shit. Unbelievable! E-verify is alarming. This policy has the potential to hurt many families who are simply trying to work and improve their lives. This should not have been implemented until the current undocumented population becomes documented.

The other problem is that errors in the E-verify database will hurt residents and citizens. American Civil Liberties Union staff attorney Jenny Chang Newell brings up a good point. She states that, "Rather than punishing American workers for errors in the government's own databases, the administration should enforce the workplace rights of all workers."

Now as far as I understand, this bill will force US contractors to employ e-verify, but it will not force all business to employ the system. Right?
