So you know how it's a huge pet peeve of mine when people use pejoratives like 'illegals' or 'illegal aliens' to describe us without realizing that such terms are not only grammatically incorrect, but also plain wrong for about 40% of us who entered the country on a visa (and thereby have not committed any crime whatsoever).

Well, one of the things that changed after last year's historic election was the way the new Democratic administration started choosing their terminology responsibly, deferentially, and wisely when it came to immigration; thus adopting the term 'undocumented immigrant' as the official way to describe us.

Unfortunately, having conservatives like Alito, Thomas, Scalia, and Roberts sitting on the Supreme Court made it seem like change would not necessarily reach the highest court of the land. Today, Justice Sotomayor changed that, introducing the term 'undocumented immigrant' into the SCOTUS lexicon:

Quote:
Justice Sotomayor's opinion in the case, Mohawk Industries v. Carpenter, No. 08-678, marked the first use of the term "undocumented immigrant," according to a legal database. The term "illegal immigrant" has appeared in a dozen decisions.

Suck on that Republicans!

great news! "Illegal" often makes me depressed and want to cry. Every time I hear Illegal, I wonder if I can make it better by leaving, by starting all over again and hoping for the best when all that I need is a tiny little piece of document. Then I feel scare to even think about leaving all my life behind and what hurts the most is people who don't care about how I feel and only care to say " I am so special and you are NOT! ILLEGAL!" :/

I love Sotomayor
