here in Orlando. the main organizers aren't not exactly my best friends and don't want to promote them that much either.
It was your typical rally with "si se puede" and things like that. It was in front of Senator LeMieux's office and some people went up to his office. Now, I have been there four times before and the staff already knows me and the issue. They are pro-DREAM. Is the same staff that Sen. Martinez had and he was one of the original sponsors last year. He dropped out of the Senate and Senator LeMieux was given the seat by the governor.
So this staff already knows the issue and all that good stuff. Now, today they also talked about Agjobs and also on how many farmworkers also need DREAM since they grew up here.
My main partner in the cause went to Washington for a week (i went for the May 1st rally and came home that day) and actually spoke to Senator LeMieux about DREAM. It appears that the senator isn't too sure about the instate tuition part, but kind of likes the military option. And he likes how Miami-Dade College allows students if they pay outstate tuition. Perhaps he was being political, but that is a good opening we might be able to get in.
So a group of students went up and other than talking about the dreamies that work in the fields, they did same thing they have always done with the staff that have seen them several times and basically tell us off the record that they are pro-DREAM.
So knowing everything I told you, is having a rally saying "education not deportation" along with your typical stories going to do much? that is not going to cut it. if we really want action and want it now, we have to take the next step. we need to bring in some JROTC person in there. we need to start talking deals and other things. we need to talk about some enforcement. we can have a rally everyday, but they are useless if they follow the same formula.
