Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois, the second-ranking Democrat, said this week he doesn’t want to enact piecemeal immigration laws. Durbin, sponsor of one of the limited bills, said he views such proposals as lures to bring Republicans on board for farther-reaching changes.
“I am loath to even suggest” a piecemeal plan, Durbin said. “I am for comprehensive immigration reform.”

We need to start putting the pressure on him too.

Quote:
Lugar is one supporter who’s been open-minded about passing the bill as a stand-alone. "I have urged my colleagues to consider the DREAM Act as an important step toward immigration reform, whether considered separately or as part of a larger bill," he wrote to Campus Progress.

It's ironic that a republican is the only one fully supporting our strategy to pass the dream act ASAP.

Here we go again. They said CIR with Dream will be ready this year. It's not going to happen. Standalone Dream can be passed as it's not tied up to broader reform. It's just a bill for small number of us. Nobody wants to vote on Dream now. November will mess seats up in Senate. Damn, I'm really frustrated. It's been like 9 years when Dream was introduced and still nothing. With Senate turtle on handbrake speed I might just age out to be covered by Dream

Schumer said March 2011 (then again, don't trust what he says)

Oh, please. Politics is all about evading responsibility: When you fail to do what you can do, you politicize the issue; throwing a red-herring to people who then question themselves and the parties involved and talk (sound familiar?) the issue to death. This is very disappointing, up until now I'd held Sen. Durbin to a higher standard than the others, but he has FAILED to pass this with a Democratic majority since 2006 (4 years and counting since then) for the last DECADE! And here is the kicker- They fail because they don't try. It's is insulting to anyone's intelligence for any of them to come out and say that as soon as we have more Republicans, then the sky is the limit (NOT).
