Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) said Sunday that he introduced an immigration bill just before Congress’ midterm elections break so he could get “lame-duck movement” on the legislation after Nov. 2.

“A lot of senators are retiring and might be willing to look at the issue,” Menendez said on CNN’s "State of the Union." “We need something to jump off from if we’re going to go into it in the early part of the next Congress.”

He said his bill has Republican proposals in it to entice GOP senators to get on board.

But Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), who also appeared on the show Sunday, suggested that GOP support will be difficult to get.

“I hope to work with Sen. Menendez on immigration reform, but it’s much too important to be treated as a political football or to try to jam through during a lame duck session,” Cornyn said.

This guy just wants to complicate the chances of dream passing in the lame duck.

", but its much to important to be treated as a political footbal..." what a fucken joke... then why the hell don't they provide some insight or ideas instead of just saying no to everything.

Cornyn always seems to sound like he is for immigration reform, but he is worse than Sessions. I would rather have him come out opposing any path to legalization instead of implying you support pro-immigration reform, but then voting against any form of legislation that provides that.

Please just try to pass the Dream Act during that time and stop playing games, stop giving people false hope, it's just not fair to us.
Read between the line. Menendez introduces CIR before the lame duck, so that in next congressional session, they'll have a foundation to push for CIR. No where in the interview says that Menendez will push for CIR in the lame duck session

Trust me, Dream Act will come back in the lame duck session. Just the matter of whether we get enough votes. It's like a 2007 dejavu for me.
