Quote:
Bush blasts Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for letting a comprehensive immigration reform bill die in the Senate.

At one point during his push to get the legislation passed, Bush reached out to the late Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy -- urging him to ask Reid to keep the Senate in session before the July 4 recess.

"Given the importance of this legislation, I thought it would be worthwhile to allow them a little extra for the bill to pass," Bush writes.

"Apparently, Harry Reid did not ... If Ted Kennedy couldn't persuade the majority leader of his party, my odds were not good."

And he was right. The Nevada Democrat called for a vote to end debate, which failed. The Senate then adjourned.

"Senators went home and listened to angry constituents stirred up by the loud voices on radio and TV," he writes. "By the time they came back to Washington, immigration reform was dead."

And because of that failure, Bush says "coyotes are still in business, immigrants continue to cross the border illegally, and a divisive political issue remains unsolved."
If this is true, then Reid really truly is a bitch. So don't be surprised if Dream doesn't get voted on in lame duck, or if it fails, or if CIR dies next year.

Republicans or Democrats, what's the difference? If Bush is telling the truth, then it doesn't really matter which party is in power.

It's all politics, the majority party tries to pass legislations, the minority party tries everything to block them. If the majority party passes legislations, they can say to their voters that they got things done. If the minority party successfully blocks legislations, they can say the majority party was too partisan and wasn't willing to compromise. Doesn't matter if it's Democrat or Republican.

Right now Republican is still a minority party because Obama is president and Democrats still control the Senate. Therefore Reid will try to pass immigration-related legislations like the Dream Act, and the Republicans will try everything they can to stop it.

It is partially true that Democrats killed immigration reform in 06, some of the ones more responsible than others were Harry Reid, then senator Barack Obama, among others. Reid's reason was that unions did not want people to be able to obtain visas in order to come work in the U.S. because well that would have done some serious damage to the union's workforce. Which is funny because now SEIU, one of the biggest unions in the U.S. is pushing for CIR, and they won't let the DREAM Act pass. Why? because they know that most Hispanics and people who will benefit from CIR are in the working force. Then senator Obama, believed that some of the requirements for CIR in 06 were too strong and would separate families, yet he continues to deport more than 400 thousand people a year, setting a record for deportations, more than his Republican colleagues. I agree that it is partially politics but their is also all these unions, and community organizations who will lose as well. Some community organizations will lose contributions because they are no longer needed, and well unions can have their members jobs threatened by the new wave of documented workers.

DA has to pass the senate before December, otherwise we won't have enough time for it to be voted on a democrat controlled house.

Republicans won't take control until January right?

Reid needs to get it done before the jackasses take over in January.

The fact is that President Bush really did try and he fought for CIR. He did A LOT MORE than Obama has ever done in two years. (Who has just been deporting like crazy).

And for that, I will always respect President Bush. He fought for us. And as much as people hate him, I hold my deepest appreciation for his efforts.
