(Washington, DC) -- President Obama vows to keep pushing for a permanent extension of the Bush-era tax cuts for the middle class.

In a press conference, the President said he was "disappointed" that two votes on the extensions failed in the U.S. Senate Saturday.

A vote to extend tax cuts for families making up to $250,000 a year failed in the Senate 53-36. Sixty votes were need to break a Republican filibuster on the issue.

A vote to extend the cuts for wealthy Americans making up to a million dollars also failed 53-37.

Obama slammed Republicans for trying to "hold tax cuts for the middle class hostage", in an effort to get tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans.

He also said he will push Democratic and Republican leaders alike to solve the problem in the next few days.

The Bush-era tax cuts are set to expire at the end of the year.

Republicans want to extend all the tax cuts, while Democrats want to extend the cuts only for the middle class.

His whole presidency is a disappointment. America spoke in the 2008 elections, the promise he made in the campaign; people voted for it. Elections happen for a reason.

Honestly i feel like the Democrats never took economics. Give them the tax cuts for a trade (Dream Act). We would in return make up for all and more of the tax break the rich comprise of. I feel like were the Democrats only leverage and their not very good at using us to get their agenda passed what so ever. BTW the Republicans know starting Jan 3rd they own capital hill. The president is just a spokes person, its the senate and house that run the country and the Republicans would love nothing more then to say the Democrats liberal agenda has farther ruined our great nation because they don't want to compromise.

Not at all. Do you really think they will let the tax cuts automatically go up at the end of the year for the rich? If nothing happens all of the tax rates go up. They will pass a bill, but the Republicans are going to run down the clock to the 11th hour

I agree, Republicans will prolong it till d end and using all d lame duck session time and as they have mentioned they will not vote for anything until this shit is resolved. So, even if dems bring DREAM ACT on d floor it will just be a political move from dems and they know that they will not be able to pass it without republicans help. So, having said that the american people are also more concerned about their own taxes and unemployment benefits rather fighting for some illegals to get legalized and take more of their jobs and thier dumb kids future college seats too. So, I don't know. Lets hope as always for d best and c wht happens,. It's d same situation when republicans said it very clearly that if Obama passes health care bill and then they r not going to vote on any legislature and they proved it too. Good Luck!!!

If Reid doesn't bring up the DREAM Act like he promised, I hope he gets some major lash back from the Hispanics in his state.

Trust me he will bring it up. The fact that I'm afraid of is that he will bring it up no matter what. Whether he has 0 or 60 votes.

Bringing the dream act before gettin this resolved would be a HUGE RISK!!! We will not get any GOP support and as far as I know they take a break on the 17th so yeah....little by little my hopes are vanishing away...

There better be some major consequences if Reid uses the DREAM as a sacrificial lamb.
