Most Dreamers are 25 and over. They've lived in the shadows the longest and most of them already have degrees or a career. To cap the age at 25 would be a total disservice to all of us. It leaves out those who suffered the most and who is most deserving.

Once any immigration measure passes, to pass a second one is next to impossible for a decade. Republicans will get what they want - a small group of 200,000 non-voting Hispanics who won't hurt them during the elections while doing away with immigration reform for another decade. Democrats are spineless enough to go along with this.

I will qualify either way, but we should not compromise with 25. Do we want to legalize 200,000 people in sacrifice of 2 million or more? This is no way to earn power to our status in the long run.

No politician cares as long as it gets passed and earn a good name for themselves. Even Durbin himself slashed the age by 5 years without serious compromise from the other side.

Hm, I do agree, but I see this as highly unlikely to happen... unfortunately.
Shouldn't this be in the lounge? o_o

Wait a minute, didn't you argue for weeks with DA User when he suggested that the age cap be 35? You're such a troll, 1L-Deferred :P

I'm not advocating it to fail like DA USER. I am saying age cap should be kept at 30 at the least, like it is now. Repubs are saying 25 and under

30 is reasonable, albeit it sucks for the people who age out.

Honestly, even 25 would be reasonable, (and I'm saying it knowing full well I would not be eligible) if it was not for the fact that they tried to change the age cap at the last minute. Activism always precedes any given vote, and to try to change it at the last minute fucks people over ex post facto.

If you know you will not be ineligible for DA, you should at least know that ahead of time so you can plan your life accordingly, and if you so desire, support CIR and not the DA.

Take whatever you can get if they make it 20 years old be happy with it. Need any win to get a foot in the door then you can make changes until you have any type of path to citizenship you have nothing. Again look at social security , welfare, food stamps all these programs were small and suppose to be short lived look at them now. But if you dont have a some kind of bill anything you dont have anything to expand.

Make it 20 and lose your core support immediately....there goes 80% of dreamers who've been pushing for 5+ years. Try to pass a bill w/o beneficiaries backing it and see how that goes.
