Press conference to demand AB131 out of supension and signed by Gov. Brown

WHEN: Thursday, July 28 · 10:00am - 11:00am
WHERE: 5246 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Lynwood, CA

CDN and CADTA are working together and inviting all California dreamers and allies to join us at a press conference event at Marco Antonio Firebaugh High School to urge Governor Brown and the state Senate leadership to take AB131 out of suspension and get it signed. We want the real CA Dream Act.
Please remember to bring caps and gowns.

There will be some rides provided from the UCLA Downtown Labor Center. Please reserve your spot by registering on the spread sheet below. We are asking for people who need a ride to be there at 8:30am. Transportation will be leaving the UCLA labor center at 9am to Marco Antonio Firebaugh HS.

Register here: http://tiny.cc/2s7vq

UCLA Labor Center:
675 S Park View St, Los Angeles, CA 90057

Transportation Contact:
Felipe Escobar
Phone: 818-679-7745
Email: [email protected]

PS: Please let us know if you can provided more rides

On July 25, Governor Brown and Assemblyman Cedillo celebrated the signature of the CA Dream Act, but we all know that only half of the CA Dream Act was signed. AB 130 will only provide more private scholarships, but the real help for most of our CA Dreamers is in AB 131.

AB131 includes:
-Board of Governors (BOG) Fee Waiver
-Institutional Student Aid: Student aid program administered by the
attending college or university (i.e.State University Grant, UC Grant)
-Competitive Cal Grants after all California resident students receive theirs.

AB 131 is the most important bill. It is the real CA Dream Act! It is time for all us to join together and demand the right to equal educational opportunities.

History on Marco Antonio Firebaugh High School :
Marco Antonio Firebaugh (October 13, 1966 – March 21, 2006) authored AB 540 which allows undocumented youth to pay in-state tuition as opposed to international fees if they meet specific criteria.

Once you're there, maybe you can PRESSURE LEGISLATORS TO GIVE DREAMERS A DRIVERS LICENSE AND/OR WORK PERMIT LIKE IN UTAH.

UPDATE: CA D.A. HAS BEEN LIFTED FROM SUSPENSION AND PASSED THE SENATE FLOOR. BUT OUR WORK ISN'T OVER YET!

"Now that AB131 passed the Senate, it will head to the Assembly floor for concurrence. Then to the Gov's desk. We need to fill the Gov's phone-lines. (916) 445-2841 & (213) 897-0322.

Be polite: "My name is _________ and I'm calling to ask Governor Jerry Brown to support and sign Assembly Bill 131, the California Dream Act. Thank you very much" "

Only Cal Grants, the best part of the bill, won't. The bill also mandates that the state provide other forms for other types of aid. The question is whether those other types of aid will be as good as Cal Grants.
