Ok so according to Rubio. His bill should be on paper by June. Controversial bills like the DA take a quite a bit of time to get approved by a committee and then might get sent to a sub-committee and get studied again. Do you think the plan here is to have a vote after the november elections and if Romney doesn't win then the GOP might shoot down their own bill and bring up a new one on 2016?

The GOP needs to start going after the hispanic vote right now if they want to win future elections. The hispanic population is only going to get larger so they should start with supporting Rubio's bill

The bill is controversial but a small one, very few pages unlike CIR.
They rushed several bills in Lame Duck and got it to vote.

I think the plan is to vote before the fall semesters and if Reid does not have the votes then he will wait till after elections to vote.

Latinos would be smart enough to figure out that the Repubs are holding the DA hostage in exchange for votes. I would be stupid for them to do so. Plus, Rubio said he hopes to have DA 2.0 in effect by fall 2012.

Hopes being the key word here.

It's hard to figure out what's going to happen without the bill being presented yet. All we can do now is speculate as to what we think may happen.

Once this bill is presented in June it can take 1 week till they vote on it or 1 year. It depends on how serious they are with tackling this bill.

I for one want to give Rubio the benefit of the doubt that he's gonna try real hard to pass it by fall. After all he's already trying harder in these past couple of months than Obama did the past 4 years.

For the bill to have any real effect on the Latino vote in the election, it will absolutely have to be brought to the floor before November. Both sides will be wary of any media attention, and people have to remember that in addition to the presidential election, the House and the Senate members have to play ball as well.

If it is too strict/more enforcement than anything, Reps will get slammed, if it doesn't pass despite being reasonable Dems will get a lot of bad press. Both sides have a lot to lose and I guess something to gain, but I am rather surprised that Reps have chosen to bring immigration to the forefront before the elections, where their record on the issue alienates the majority of the Latino population. We should honestly view this as an excellent sign, because the only thing they could be looking to gain is the Latino vote. I mean conservatives already know that Reps are tougher on immigration than Dems, and rarely will a Democrat candidate be the better choice for the xenophobes, so I find it doubtful they are looking to retain their votes but instead are trying to convert some of the more liberal base.

Obama cannot write the bill so it isn't his fault. He is doing what he can.
