WASHINGTON — Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans are accusing their GOP colleagues involved in writing a bipartisan immigration bill of operating in secret. They say “the time for transparency has come.”

The lawmakers want briefings on the bill and full hearings before any votes. That issue is turning into a dispute as Republicans push for a fuller process on the immigration bill, and some Democrats accuse them of trying to slow-walk the process.

The legislation could be released as early as next week. It is expected to secure the border and offer eventual citizenship to an estimated 11 million immigrants living here illegally.

Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, one of eight senators writing the bill, says he intends to brief the entire Republican conference next week and agrees hearings are needed.

Blah. According to leahy they'll get their chance. Plus Rubio al mighty is briefing them on the bill next week so what are they talking about? They're trying to paint this thing as some new secretive bill that deals with something they've never heard of. I bet most of the language in this new bill is extremely similar to the '07 bill.
