Cost, impossible logistics, political opposition, and community resistance could spell the end of the president-elect's anti-immigrant scheme

Speaking with experts and former immigration officials, reporter Ted Hesson outlined what it would take to implement the plan:

Trump would need tens of billions of dollars in new spending approved by Congress. He'd also need years to hire and train new legions of enforcement agents, and to deploy hundreds of judges to relieve the nation's severely backlogged immigration courts. And to find even two million undocumented immigrants to deport, he'd have to change how he defines criminal acts worthy of removal—or start rounding up people without convictions. Added together, the obstacles could be insurmountable.

According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the average cost for each deportation is $12,213, excluding personnel salaries. So, to deport two million people, would add up to more than $24.4 billion over four years.

On top of that, a study published earlier this month by the San Francisco-based Immigrant Legal Resource Center found that Trump's pledge to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program would cost businesses an estimated $3.4 billion and reduce Social Security and Medicare funds by $24.6 billion over 10 years.

I am saddened by the ones that didn't vote for hatred and bigotry! If we could selectively give social security contributions the Clinton voting seniors would be living very comfortable!

This is the bunch that went "What? Why would my ACA & medicare insurance go away when Trump just promised to get rid of obamacate and stop federal government from messing with my healthcare?" Do you *REALLY* think they're even aware that Dreamers send money to social security pool?

Only 20 more days to go and we will find out for sure what's going to happen. I hold steadfast to my prediction that we will not get deported. Things are starting to look very good. Trump the businessman surely understands the ramification of "ending DACA." Can't wait for inauguration day to get some clarity on what plans the administration has going forward.

Exactly. On the contrary I really think the majority who voted for Trump fit that description for sure. They are regular hard working rural folk in places like Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania etc. I'm actually praying Trump policies end up helping them and all of us in the end, because it is them and us all middle class people who really need some help. Honestly so far its looking like initially his policies will be helping the top of the top wealthy folks, all of whom are concentrated in states that voted for Hillary Clinton! But I am being optimistic right now that down the road the middle class will truly get to see some of the benefits.
