Ben Carson: Give Illegals Six Months to Register as Guest Workers
Quote:
GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson told CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday that his immigration plan would include giving illegal immigrants six months to register as guest workers.

“Those who are here, you know, we have to recognize that we can't just round them up, but we can give them an opportunity to register. I would give them a six-month period, and if they register and they have a pristine record, they haven't been causing problems, I would give them an opportunity to become guest workers, not citizens, not voting people, not people who get goodies,” said Carson.

“And I think that would be a fair way to do it. In terms of them becoming citizens later on down the road, if they have done things the right way, we, the American people, will decide what the criteria for that would be,” he added.

“I want to ask you for a moment about immigration, which, as you have said, that Donald Trump's plan for deporting those undocumented workers here is unrealistic, is it unrealistic because it's unfeasible, or is it -- do you have a moral problem with that notion of trying to deport all the undocumented workers who are here?” host John Dickerson asked.

“No, I believe the logistics are difficult,” said Carson. “As I said, I'm all ears. If somebody can tell me exactly how you can do that, I would certainly be interested in hearing it, but the fact of the matter is, our problem is that our federal government is not supporting the local authorities at the border.

“And it's disgusting, what is going on, that people are risking life and limb just to have ICE come along and say, release those people,” he said. “And that fence down there, I mean, when I was a kid, that barely represented any impediment whatsoever to our progress. It's ridiculous.

“Until we seal our borders, everything else is irrelevant, but let's say we get them sealed, because, certainly, in a Carson administration, that would be done within the first year,” said Carson. “You also turn off the spigot that dispenses the goodies so that people don't have any incentive to come here.”

At this point, any other candidate who isn't Trump has my endorsement. I think Ben's plan is great; however, most republicans want the illegals out. At this point, they don't care whether we contribute to the economy or not, they just want us out.

Problem with Ben's plan is that he doesn't have one. Bastard doesn't have the faintest clue what immigration law looks like.

So, register as guest workers, how? Apply for H-2B visa? Those have heavy numerical caps and you can't get a change of status if you're in US illegally, so you'll need an act of congress. Once you're there you might as well try to think what to do 5, 10, 15 years later. CIR 2013 comes to mind but your party refused to pick it up in the house.

There's also other questions: Will we be able to travel legally? Will we be able to become permanent residents down the line or other means? Or do you just want second class residents that won't ever be able to vote against your party because you damn well know we all hate you.

Also the comment about "goodies", asshole we didn't come here for welfare, don't worry your imprisoned halfbrother's 4th child with 3rd woman won't be in competition with us.

Bottom line - fuck Trump, fuck Carson, fuck every single republican that has ever drawn a breath.

Didn't Bush suggested a guest worker program at one point? Don't really remember what happened to that. I do like Ben Carson's idea for a guest worker program though. It's a good middle ground. Look, no matter how you spin it, we are indeed here illegally, so we can't feel like we're entitled to anything. We're here to work for better opportunities, and a guest worker program gives us just that. In fact, that at it's core is essentially what DACA is, a guest worker program that was able to bypass congress via EO.

TBH I don't really care about voting, since aside from my legal status, whoever is president does not really affect me all that much. Honestly from the Clinton years, to Bush, nothing has changed all that much. Even the Obama years didn't really look any different aside from us getting DACA, which I am eternally grateful for. A guest worker program will give us the legal means and tools to work towards our goals, which is what we wanted to do anyway. I could care less about voting or the goodies, since I'm sure if my own life is successful enough, I can find a significant other no problem and just get a GC and eventually citizenship via marriage.

But I can understand if there are others who want to travel as one of their goals, and the guest worker program may or may not allow that, but personally, traveling isn't really on the top of my list. I can travel with my future wife later on if I wanted to. I just want a nice house and couple performance cars, since I'm a car guy, and I'll be good. So yes, I can see the benefits of a guest worker program.

If you think about it DACA IS a guest worker program.

Yes, but it does not remove the 10 year ban.

According to him in the last GOP debate, he would let us register but we would be obligated to work in farms. . .

Now imagine if someone said that blacks should go back to picking cotton and stay off welfare, or they'd get deported to Africa.

As I said before, fuck this guy.

And remember he also said "maybe". So he can pretty much scratch the guest worker problem all together .
