After days of speculation, lawyers representing Daniela Vargas said the woman from Jackson, Mississippi, who was in the U.S. illegally, would not be deported anytime soon.

The 22-year-old Argentinian was expected to be released Friday with an order of supervision.

“We expect Daniela to return to her friends and community in Mississippi shortly to resume her daily life and pursue her dreams,” the Elmore & Peterson Law Firm announced in a statement.

The law firm said the terms of the Order of Supervision were still unknown.

Federal agents detained Vargas on March 1 just minutes after she criticized U.S. deportation policies at a news conference in Jackson. She was arrested as a friend was driving her home from the event, which was hosted by local immigration lawyers, churches, and advocacy groups.

Vargas’ father and brother were detained in their home on February 15 as she hid in the closet. The two men were deported shortly after.

Vargas was covered by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program but that protection expired in November. According to her lawyers, she could not renew it on time due to financial constraints.

Vargas has been in the U.S. since her parents brought her here from Argentina at the age of 7.

the good news for us keep on coming, RACA baby!

Whoa these are very good news indeed - so even if we are out of status once our daca expires, but there is an renewable application pending for it , then we still won't deported. ( assuming you haven't done any crimes) phew!!

I also really surprised ICE didn't deport her for that gun they found. Why did they focused so much on her waiver visa?

Indeed good precedent for all DACAers.
