Senate Democrats are warning that they will not accept a plan by House conservatives to pair a full year of defense funding with a short-term fix for other programs.

"We write to express our concern with reports that the House Republican leadership is considering sending partisan legislation to the Senate that would result in funding cuts to important homeland security, veterans, agriculture and health care programs," 44 of the caucus's 48 members wrote in a letter to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.).

They said Republicans should "forego any plans to consider partisan legislation known as a 'CRomnibus.'"

With a 52-seat majority, Republicans would need to win over at least eight Democratic senators to pass a government funding bill.

With 44 Democrats on record opposing , no way republicans can get the 60 votes they need. I’m pretty sure some Senate Republicans will oppose as well. Take that Ryan!

There must be something Ryan isn’t saying. He can’t be that oblivious.

You don’t know much about politics do you? Sherrod brown and Baldwin are progressive liberals. Casey votes party line most of the time .Fact of the matter is 44 out of 48 Dems signed this letter. That means republicans can only get 4 out of 8. There is no guarantee the 4 who didn’t sign on to this letter will even vote with republicans.

Yup. Best case scenario, if those 4 Democrats switch, that puts them at 55. Still need 5.

The four Democrats who did not sign Tuesday's letter were Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Joe Donnelly of Indiana, and Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota.

Ignore catportal , he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

And its possible leadership said it was ok for them not to sign it, but they are expected to withhold their vote if it comes down to it.
