Among the items considered: military funding far above the White House's request and, enticingly for Trump, full funding for Trump's border security demands. The border offer went beyond what was included in the bipartisan plan conceived by Sens. Dick Durbin and Lindsay Graham which Trump rejected last week in vulgar terms.

The outlines of the potential agreement seemed promising. But it wouldn't come together in the half-day left before the shutdown. Schumer told Trump they'd need a stopgap plan to fund the government for a few days. Trump concurred, said he'd discuss the plan with Republicans, and promised to phone Schumer later with an update.

But instead of calling Trump, it was Kelly -- the retired four-star Marine who'd sat aside Trump during lunch -- who called Schumer. The outline discussed earlier in the day was too liberal, Kelly said, even with a discussion of Trump's full border request. It wasn't enough to keep the President negotiating.

OP's thoughts: Schumer offered him literally full funding for The Wall/Border Security (18 Billion the WH wanted.) and NDAA military funding far above what the WH requested and Trump denied it?

then what else can we do? this is outrageous. the Feb 8th promise by the GOP to bring in a stand alone Durbin-Graham bill is a trap. it will never be put on the floor of the House or even if it did pass, Trump will veto it. They just dont want the DACA fix to fail but they want to embarrass us by putting a stand-alone fix to fail for everyone to see. They're talking point will be "amnesty is not the will of the elected representatives of the people."

Feb 8th could be the beginning of the end, and it could be a worse demise than a clean Dream Act. only way forward is the Dream Act to be attached to must-pass legislation, it doesnt even have to be the spending bill. attach that shit to the Disaster Relief Aid, we know there are Dreamers in Texas, Florida, and other places that were affected by the hurricanes.

sure do hope i am wrong, please share your thoughts if you agree or disagree, i would like to hear your opinion.

I highly doubt that Schumer were willing to give the full $20b for just DACA. If true, he probably ask for something more as well which might have been considered "too liberal".

i guess the sticking point is the Dream Act itself covers nearly 3.5 million people. Trump does not want to grant "amnesty" for that many people plus give our parents 3 yr renewable status'.

do you guys think that is too liberal or reasonable to counter the WH's demands?

At this point if a bill is going to pass it has to have the white house blessing. If the White House doesn't give the OK forget about it.

They feel the current bill is a little too liberal and needs to be more to the right.

So I guess we are looking at another couple of weeks of negotiations

Im just gonna live my life and try to forget about the dysfunctional US Congress.

My goals and dreams are still mine to achieve, whether it happens here or another country

It's very reasonable. Especially for full funding. If they don't want us to be able to sponosor our parents, what do they expect? Before we get that green card, we turn in our parents toICE? GOP are on the wrong side of history.

We need to keep the pressure on the Republicans so they will eventually have to strike a deal. Call, email, tweet! The kind of relief we get is all based on how much we can have them cave.

I don't see democrats folding, if true what Schumer have stated... they are keeping this shit shut until they get what they want. As simple as that, Democrats will keep their backs, the hate for trump will grow, the party will be pumped. So far I haven't seen anyone denying that what Schumer said was false.... If that holds I think we are in a good spot for now.
