Quote:
"Sending a cromnibus to the Senate, one that just funded defense and cut programs crucial to the middle class, would be barreling head-first into a dead-end," Schumer said, referring to a cross between an omnibus spending bill and short-term continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government open.
Quote:
"Speaker Ryan needs to do what's best for the country and work in a bipartisan way to fund the government, even if not every faction of his caucus will go along," he said.

"If he lets the Freedom Caucus be the tail that wags the dog, there's no way we'll reach an agreement that can pass the Senate," Schumer said. "And it would jeopardize the positive discussions going on right now about the budget, immigration, disaster aid and more."
Well and here is that....... in addition I think McConnell said that immigration will be brought up next week in the Senate.

So, the Democrats would be giving up all of their leverage by agreeing this, leaving any immigration deal on its own merits.

@ChadPergram
The Hse tonight will release an interim spending bill which will fund the gov't through March 23. A “Continuing Resolution” by definition funds all programs at existing levels. However, GOPers know they can’t get votes from Dems to pass the bill because there is no DACA deal

Expect GOPers to add defense spending pkg for the entire fiscal yr to sweeten interim spending bill. Will also include health care "extenders" & assistance for community health centers.

Hse GOPers are aiming to pass their stopgap spending bill tomorrow. But it faces a tricky path in the Senate. Attaching the added defense spending to the interim bill is a non-starter in the Senate. Needs 60 yeas. Senate will likely strike that provision & send it back to the Hse

Almost inevitable the Senate will send interim spending plan BACK to the House with changes, probably late Thurs. Dems will be on eastern shore of MD for their retreat. Am told they will have "engines running" ready to bring Dems back for a late Thurs vote to avoid shutdown

Could be an interesting & late Thursday on CapHill to avoid shutdown if Hse/Senate are ping-ponging spending bills back & forth. Gov't funded
through 11:59:59 pm Thursday.

Dems need to at least attach a DACA extension or something in order to get something in return.

Damn, maybe enough Democrats will vote yes. They are getting played. This is where they can hold the line, but we all know they aren't willing to shut the government down.

You think Republicans would want to move on with their lives instead of dealing with CR every few weeks. Give DACA is such a small price to pay but they consistently over play their hand. Ineffective majority, I hope they like spending the rest of the year getting nothing accomplished. End of year there will be dips in the economy so Trump can't hid behind a glowing economy anymore.

They will if they decide to add full year of military spending. Schumer can't afford not to.

Dems have ALWAYS said full of year of defense spending without parity of domestic spending is a NO. Let's see if they cave again..

Ryan is evil though, now he'll attach community health center fnding too with lapsed four months ago

I think the narrative that they were shutting down the government over illegals was too much for the Dems.
Hopefully, this will be different.
