President Donald Trump will meet with Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer at the White House next Tuesday to try to avoid a Christmastime shutdown over border wall funding, two congressional sources confirmed to POLITICO.

The meeting, originally scheduled for this week, was postponed following the death of former President George H.W. Bush. Lawmakers also agreed to kick a government funding deadline set for Friday to Dec. 21 to buy themselves more negotiating time.

But now that the ceremonies honoring the 41st president are over, top lawmakers are starting to once again turn their attention to the spending standoff.

Trump’s request for $5 billion worth of border wall funding stands at the center of the funding dispute. Democrats are loath to fund Trump's southern barrier without other immigrations concessions for their own priorities. But Republicans have not offered any thus far.

Trump has said he’s willing to shut the government down without the money. And lawmakers on the Hill are bracing for a weekend shutdown right before Christmas.

The divide even penetrates the Democratic party. Schumer and Senate Democrats have agreed that $1.6 billion in southern border fencing is the starting point for negotiations. House Democrats are pressuring Pelosi to push back and refuse to back even a penny.

The meeting will occur at 11:30 a.m. in the Oval Office, the sources said.

From colleague Jason Donner. GOP LA Sen John Kennedy on border wall funding: “I don’t think he’s [Trump] kidding. I think he’s prepared to shut the government down.”

She calls them two totally different subject? I’m guessing she calls them...

1)Wall funding for Muller protection.
2)DACA for 2020 Political pawns.

Democratic leadership went from “we are not going home until we have a DACA solution regardless of a shutdown” to “DACA can wait until 2020”

And after 2020, DACA can wait until 2024. But I guess their the lesser of the two evils... they won’t deport us, but they won’t fight for us either.

Sad. Hopeless.

Your Dems arent helping us either. We are in a "taxation without representation" situation. Nobody wants us, but use us for their own benefits.

My only hope is that Trump will be stubborn enough to order Congress to draft a bill that addresses both wall and DACA while Republicans still control it just to dare Democrats to vote against it. Democrats would be in record voting against DACA.

I think everyone needs to relax and stop speculating. It's the Dems that have been fighting for us no need to turn our backs on them now. It seems to me they are playing hard-ball, they have control of the house next year and with that comes the power of the purse. There is no way that Drumpf gets his wall money, especially with the new blood in Congress. The Democratic leadership is not going to give up the leverage they have, they will wait for Drumpf to play his cards first. Pairing wall and DACA is a no-brainer just have to wait and see if Drumpf actually offers it.

Let's get back to the old DAP instead of this childish blame game. We are all on the same boat and have to fight together until we get a solution.

Hardball? On two occasions, Schumer has given Trump $1.6 billion for border security without anything on DACA. He is willing to do so a third time. But, it just so happens Trump wants more money this time.

On those two occasions, absolutely nothing on daca or other immigrants. Dems should not be giving him any money without immigrant protections, period.

From now until 2020, I doubt a DACA/wall funds deal will happen. Democrats likely won’t cave in to Trumps signature campaign promise because they fear it will ruin their chances to beat him in 2020. It’s all politics.
