The US government’s House of Representatives has voted to impeach President Trump for incitement of insurrection, 232 votes to 197.

The article Mr Trump has been charged with concerns the events of January 6, in which his supporters stormed the Capitol Building in Washington DC while certification of the election results was underway.

The House voted to impeach with 232 yeas to 197 nays.

Representatives primarily voted along party lines, with the Democratic Party holding the majority in the House of Representatives.

However, 10 Republican representatives broke rank to vote for the article of impeachment against a Republican president, and four others abstained.

The vote makes Donald Trump the first President in US history to be impeached twice, after being impeached and later acquitted on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress in 2019.

Impeachment does not remove the President from office, but Mr Trump will now face trial in the Senate.

Yes, unless McConnell calls a special session (very unlikely). McConnell is pissed off at Trump, so it will get interesting.

Trump isn't getting convicted. You might get like 4-5 Rs in the Senate to vote for impeachment. This shit is fucked.

Trump is fucked if a vote happens. I think there are enough votes for conviction.

Two thirds of Senate are needed to convict Trump, that is all Democrats plus 17 Republicans if I understand correctly. Anyone voting against it, if a vote occurs, will be seen as a seditionist for the rest of their lives.



In his words, we'll see what happens.

We may see republican who are safe for the next 6 years and feels burned by trump vote against him Definitely not senate republicans who face 2022 elections.

It's so satisfying seeing this happen. Not only because Trump is getting just just desserts, but because it sends a message to the next brainless monkey that wants to run for president that one can't just try to manipulate the outcome of an election by turning the world upside down and spreading lies.
