Hey guys,

I was recommended by a loan broker I follow to consult this company for a free consult on credit coaching ( I know I know... don’t try to go to credit repair companies!) but their ratings are very legit. A little back story, I have around a 620-ish credit score and I’m hoping to buy a house by the end of the year. I don’t have a ton of debt but I had like two cards charged off some years ago, the longest being 6 years ago. The consultant is recommending I settle some of them “to improve the ratings or remarks” on those. Now, from all the information on the web, I know it’s a bad idea to pay off a charged off debt. What should I do here?

Most negative items should automatically fall off your credit reports seven years from the date of your first missed payment, at which point your credit scores may start rising. ... If a negative item on your credit report is older than seven years, you can dispute the information with the credit bureau.
